Milton Keynes is the fastest growing city in the United Kingdom. In the year 2013, the city was home to around 230,000 residents, with thirteen people moving to Milton Keynes every day! The population is expected to rise to nearly 300,000 citizens by 2026, further rising to 325,000 by the year 2037.
Milton Keynes was originally anticipated as an answer to the ever-growing and densely populated capital, London, following town planning guidance given after governmental studies carried out between 1964 and 1965. The idea was to build ‘a new city’ that would incorporate the existing towns in the area such as Bletchley, Wolverton and Stony Stratford. The fact is now that the city that was originally envisioned as the dream of local politicians and town planners in the late ’60s is now the home to almost 270,000 residents, 11,000 businesses. There are countless places to visit in the city.
The Dons Moving to Milton Keynes
The Milton Keynes Dons Football Club has a 30,000-capacity all-seater stadium in the city. The footy club was established as recently as 2004 when Wimbledon F.C.’s controversially relocated to Milton Keynes from south London and adopted the current name, badge and home colours. During the 2007/08 season, former England captain and Manchester United star Paul Ince took over as the team’s manager. The Dons reached the final of the Football League Trophy while remaining at the top of the table for most of the season. The final was played against Grimsby Town and the Dons easily won 2 – 0 at Wembley to bring the first professional football trophy to the new city of Milton Keynes.
Milton Keynes is also now home to its own F1 racing team. The Red Bull Racing team has gone on to win four consecutive constructors and drivers championships between the years 2010 and 2013.
